EdTech in Ghana: A Rapid Scan

SDGs Impacted

EdTech Hub country scans explore factors that enable and hinder the use of technology in education. This includes policies, government leadership, private-sector partnerships, and digital infrastructure for education. This document describes Ghana’s national and education ICT policies, considering the latter in greater detail, including long-term strategy. At the basic education level, strategies are focused on improving infrastructure and supporting skills development for teachers and learners. At the secondary level, the focus is on improving the integration of EdTech in teaching and learning materials, with particular attention to STEM. Here you will find some of the initiatives developed by Ghana's government.

Impact / Outcome
One of Ghana’s initiative is called Eneza Education. It offers a mobile-phone-based learning platform that allows users to access lesson programmes and ask teachers clarifying questions through SMS. It targets primary and secondary students and teachers living in rural and marginalised communities where it can be a challenge to access teaching and learning resources that are aligned with the national curriculum. One million learners are using the platform and over 6,500 teachers have been trained to use the platform.
