getUBetter: Patient impact and digital inclusion

SDGs Impacted

getUBetter is an evidence based, CE marked, digital self-management platform for all common musculoskeletal injuries and conditions including back, back and leg, neck, shoulder, knee, and ankle pain. It provides 24/7 self-management support, so people trust their recovery and are only re-directed to healthcare services when necessary. Patients are supported digitally through their recovery day-to-day with personalised, evidence-based behaviour change techniques which includes symptom checking, nudges, videos, exercises, and outcome measures. People can either self-refer for a condition or it can be prescribed during a virtual or face to face consultation.

Impact / Outcome
It is estimated to reduce MSK Physiotherapy referrals by 20% and save every CCG (360,000 population) £1.96m in direct cost savings for back pain alone. getUBetter can also reduce prescriptions for MSK medication by 50% and evidence shows it reduced pain in 7/10 patients. 86% of users say it is easy to use and get started, and 71% believe the app helped them to self-manage.
