Summary

To reduce the digital divide for women-led SMEs, BBVAMF and its Dominican Republic affiliate is creating a digital ecosystem for low-income-women women-led businesses to help them expand their markets, enhance their digital skills, and increase their revenues. The business model will facilitate their access to working capital needs, too. The Dominican Republic shows that 24.6% of the women population is still living below poverty line standards (2021 figures). In a recent BBVAMF-sponsored research, 81.5% of interviewed low-income women entrepreneurs reported a total absence of business-applied digital skills. The initiative is intended to improve the microbusinesses' digitization by providing not just skills but digital education, website development, and payment solutions integration. Under the first phase, 5,000 low-income people are targeted before October 2025.
