The Rwanda Coding Academy was incepted by the Government of Rwanda as an innovative model school and a proof of concept for developing ICT skills and 21st-century skills for high school-level students who want to pursue a career in coding, embedded systems, and cyber security, with the aim of developing them into world-class programmers. Since the Academy opened its doors on 4th February 2019, Rwanda Coding Academy graduated its inaugural class of 58 students in 2021, The Academy is now attended by 178 students. A blended approach is taken where students at the academy are enrolled to support government digitization initiatives such as Sratc2h 2050, e-imihigo, e-cabinet, trainer MIS, and consumables MIS. Rwanda has been supported by development partners such as the World Bank and the Korea International Cooperation Agency to expand, optimize, and maintain the Coding Academy as well as benchmarking to have similar programs running overseas.
