Summary

The ANEMEL project aims to develop all the necessary components to build and validate a 1 kWe stack anion exchange membrane water electrolyser (AEMWE) operating under saline conditions. The water electrolyser will produce 10 gH2/h from 3.3% NaCl, a concentration of salt equivalent to seawater. In this project we are developing electrocatalyts, membranes, anti-corrosion protecting layers for bipolar plates to demonstrate a stack with proven stability for 2000h with minimal degradation. This proof of concept stack will have a significant reduction of capital costs as it does not contain platinum group metals nor perfluorinated materials, as is the case for PEM and other AEM electrolysers.
