Summary

CarbiCrete’s patented technology enables the production of cement-free, decarbonized concrete in which cement is entirely replaced with steel slag, an industrial byproduct. The concrete products are cured with captured CO2 which is mineralized during curing. This process avoids all of the emissions associated with cement production, while also permanently removing CO2 from the atmosphere. The resulting products meet all of the same performance requirements as cement-based concrete. This technology is currently being deployed at Canal Block, a concrete products manufacturer based in Port Colborne, Ontario.

Description of Technology:

Our patented curing process involves the injection of CO2 into a curing chamber where it reacts with the steel slag within the fresh concrete. During the carbonation process, the biogenic CO2 from ethanol fermentation is permanently captured and converted into stable calcium carbonates, filling the voids of the matrix to form a dense structure and giving the concrete its strength.
