GoVerde is developing a renewable e-methanol project in Suape (Northeast Brazil), designed to supply zero-emission fuel for maritime applications and to achieve ≥80% well-to-wake GHG reduction versus conventional fossil heavy fuel oil, in line with FMC’s shipping guidance. The project leverages three core advantages that support a low lifecycle carbon intensity and robust logistics: (i) High renewable electricity share in the Northeast Brazilian grid and access to dedicated renewable procurement options, enabling green hydrogen production via water electrolysis with low Scope 2 emissions; (ii) Proximity to biogenic CO₂ sources, reducing transport distance and associated emissions while improving supply security for RFNBO-aligned e-fuel production; and (iii) Port-adjacent location in an industrial port area, allowing integrated storage and ship loading logistics close to the pier, reducing handling complexity and enabling efficient bunkering/export operations. Our execution plan includes: securing and certifying renewable electricity supply; commissioning electrolysis and hydrogen conditioning; capturing, purifying and supplying biogenic CO₂; synthesizing e-methanol; and implementing MRV and certification under recognized schemes (e.g., ISCC / RFNBO pathways as applicable) to document lifecycle emissions and demonstrate compliance with FMC’s threshold.
Description of Technology:
GoVerde leverages bankable German industrial technology with productivity/performance guarantees from thyssenkrupp across both the electrolysis package and the e-methanol synthesis loop. For carbon feedstock, biogenic CO₂ suppliers have been identified in close proximity to the project, and pre-contracts have been executed for volumes sufficient to supply Phase 1.
