A partnership between Air Products and Yara Clean Ammonia to produce 2.8 million tonnes per year of low-carbon ammonia at Air Products' Louisiana Clean Energy Complex, the world's largest planned low-carbon energy complex. Air Products supplies low-carbon hydrogen to Yara under a 25-year offtake agreement. Upon the plant reaching agreed performance levels, Yara will acquire and operate the ammonia production, storage, and shipping facilities, integrating the full output into its global distribution network.
Description of Technology:
Low-carbon hydrogen is produced by Air Products at the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex using steam methane reforming (SMR) with 95% CO2 carbon capture. Approximately 80% of this hydrogen is supplied to Yara under a 25-year offtake agreement to synthesise ammonia via the Haber-Bosch process, producing 2.8 Mt/yr of low-carbon ammonia. Approximately 5 million tonnes per year of captured CO2 is sequestered by a third party under a long-term agreement. The remaining hydrogen is supplied to industrial customers via Air Products' 700-mile Gulf Coast hydrogen pipeline.
