Summary

Molten Industries’ methane pyrolysis process produces carbon-neutral hydrogen by thermally decomposing natural gas with renewable electricity into graphite and hydrogen, avoiding CO2 emissions associated with traditional steam reforming.

Description of Technology:

Molten Industries’ methane pyrolysis process produces carbon-neutral hydrogen by thermally decomposing natural gas with renewable electricity into graphite and hydrogen, avoiding CO2 emissions associated with traditional steam reforming. Similar to natural gas DRI, this enables a scalable production route that leverages low-cost natural gas resources and infrastructure. Unlike natural gas DRI, ironmaking with Molten’s process produces no CO2 and presents a route to carbon-neutral steel production.
