Summary

The Carbon Removers (headquarters in Scotland) have been active in the carbon removal market since 2023, supporting durable carbon removal via BECCS and mineralisation pathways. This has been through their UK Capture sites, regulated through Puro.earth. TCR has sold and delivered over 3,000 tonnes in these sites, with customers including British Airways, Klarna and Natwest.

Due to limited storage capacity in the UK, TCR began expanding and scaling up this project to Europe and has partnered with Greensands, which is the largest European storage facility. TCR have developed a biogenic carbon removal project in Denmark, sourcing CO₂ from multiple biomethane plants across Denmark and Sweden. These facilities exclusively use sustainable waste feedstock and either have historically vented their CO₂ or do not rely on CO₂ income for their business model.

The captured CO₂ is aggregated via a road transport network using either cryogenic ISO tanks or specialised CO₂ road tankers, depending on site needs. A central quality control facility performs chromatography testing on each batch to ensure it meets Project Greensand’s storage specifications. From there, the CO₂ is transported to Greensand’s buffer storage facility at Esbjerg port.

The Danish Project has secured 50,000 tonnes per year of permanent geological storage starting in 2026 under Greensand’s initial phase, with an additional 25,000 tonnes reserved under Greensand Future. All 75,000 tonnes of CO₂ supply have already been secured from vetted Danish biomethane partners.

This project delivers durable, verifiable carbon removal from unavoidable biogenic sources, fully integrated with Denmark’s emerging CO₂ storage infrastructure, and is certified through Isometric Biogenic Capture and Storage (Bio-CCS) Protocol v1.1, and has a permanence of >1,000 years.
