# About the Global Regulatory Innovation Platform initiative

## The pace of technological change is outrunning the rules designed to govern it

New technologies — from artificial intelligence to digital assets to automated decision-making — are transforming how economies and societies function. But the regulations meant to keep these innovations safe, fair, and accountable were largely built for a different era. Many are struggling to keep up.This creates a real problem. When regulation falls behind, innovation can cause harm — to consumers, to markets, and to public trust. But when regulation is too slow or too rigid, it can also block the very progress that could improve people's lives. Getting this balance right is one of the defining governance challenges of our time.

## More about our initiative

GRIP is a World Economic Forum initiative its work is closely linked to the Centre for AI Excellence. It convenes regulators, policymakers, business leaders, policy experts, legal and compliance officers, and international organizations to advance the dialogue on regulatory innovation — shaping narratives, sharing knowledge, and building the collective understanding needed to develop regulation fit for a technology-driven world.GRIP operates through structured engagement across five key communities: regulatory authorities, business leaders, policy experts and researchers, chief legal and compliance officers, and international organizations and NGOs. Whether stakeholders are navigating new technology deployments, managing cross-border regulatory complexity, or building institutional capacity, GRIP provides a space to exchange perspectives, surface emerging challenges, and contribute to a shared vision for the future of regulation. The initiative is steered by the General Secretariat of the Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum.
