## Gatekeepers Advancing Integrity and Transparency (GAIT)

A workstream of the PACI Community.

Illicit financial flows (IFFs), involving funds from activities such as money laundering, corruption, fraud and tax evasion, undermine economic stability, distort market integrity and exacerbate social inequalities.According to the United Nations, money laundering alone accounts for annual global losses of $1.6 trillion, equivalent to 2.7% of global GDP. This staggering figure underscores the urgent need for international collaboration to combat these illicit activities and their detrimental effects on global development. Businesses play a key role in this fight and in fostering a sustainable society.

## What is PACI doing?

The Gatekeepers’ workstream by PACI builds on the Unifying Framework, introducing new opportunities for partners to lead the charge against illicit financial flows and corruption, focusing on specific industries. The goal of this workstream is to equip private sector gatekeepers such as accountants, bankers, lawyers and real estate agents, with industry-focused knowledge and resources.

## Empowering gatekeepers amplifies the global fight against illicit financial flows, accelerating equitable, sustainable development.

By empowering gatekeepers, companies lay the groundwork for a sustainable future. They reduce inequality and ensure fair and efficient resource distribution. This not only contributes to growth and development but also conserves resources for sustainable development, which might otherwise be lost to corruption and illicit financial flows.
