## This year's Annual Meeting in Davos will have a blue thread that connects a host of events and announcements, highlighting the vital role of water ecosystems — from ocean to freshwater — in global stability, trade, livelihoods, food systems, and climate resilience.

This page will be updated during the Annual Meeting as announcements are made.

## What is 'Blue Davos'?

Blue Davos connects the full water cycle, from ocean to freshwater, and positions integrated water stewardship as critical infrastructure for economic prosperity, food systems, global stability and climate resilience. The world’s water cycle is increasingly off balance: too much water in some places (floods, storms, rising seas), too little in others (droughts, scarcity, drying rivers), and growing pollution that renders water unsafe. As we enter 2026 – a pivotal year for global water cooperation – Blue Davos brings the Forum’s work on freshwater, ocean and the blue economy under one unifying theme: water.

## Blue Davos Programme

Here are some of the sessions and launches to expect at during the week:Session: How Can We Build Prosperity within Planetary Boundaries? Infrastructure, food systems and natural resources are all affected by climate change. While nature loss poses significant economic and environmental risks, nature-positive models could unlock trillions for the world’s economy. How can we sustain, and even augment, growth while also remaining within the planet’s boundaries? Watch here.20 January 2026, 15:30-16:15Session: Business Case for NatureNature-based solutions have moved from aspiration to necessity as climate shocks and biodiversity loss intensify. Every $1 invested in restoring degraded land can generate an estimated $7-$30 in economic benefits, making the case for scaling natural infrastructure in land and ocean ecosystems both urgent and compelling. As economies tighten and priorities compete, what does it mean to seek a meaningful return on nature? Watch here.20 January 2026, 16:45-17:30Session: Water in the Balance. Nearly 70% of climate impacts are tied to how this resource is managed, influencing everything from rising seas and prolonged droughts to disputes over shared waterways and the trade routes they support. As these pressures intensify and new solutions emerge, how can societies turn this challenge into an opportunity for a more secure and prosperous water future? Watch here.21 January, 10:15-11:00 CET. Session: When Food Becomes SecurityAs extreme heat, floods, drought, and volatility disrupt harvests and trade, food is rapidly emerging as the new frontier of global concern. From farms to factory floors, every supply chain has become a matter of security. Can economics drive resilience where policy struggles to keep pace, preventing scarcity from turning into conflict? Watch here.21 January, 18:00-18:45 CET. Session: Velocity of the Blue EconomyThe blue economy is fast becoming one of the world’s most powerful engines for sustainable growth, set to be worth over $3 trillion a year by 2030. How is the ocean’s ever-increasing importance to economies and people changing? Watch here.22 January, 9:00-09:45 CETSession: Will We Ever Have a Global Plastics TreatyIn August 2025, negotiations for a global plastics treaty stalled once again, leaving the world without a clear path forward. Meanwhile, plastic pollution continues to pose growing challenges for climate, health and economies around the world? Watch here.22 January, 10:15-11:00 CET
