Contribute to the latest World Economic Forum report on cybersecurity risks and trends
Description

The World Economic Forum is currently developing the fifth edition of its flagship Global Cybersecurity Outlook (GCO) report, which provides timely insights into emerging trends, risks, and strategies shaping the global cyber landscape. Since 2022, the GCO has become one of the Forum’s most widely read and cited publications, featured prominently at the Annual Meeting in Davos and across international policy and industry discussions. We are inviting universities, research institutions, and think tanks to actively collaborate in shaping the 2026 edition of the report by participating in our global survey and focus groups. The survey requires only 10 minutes to complete, is fully anonymous and unattributable, and can be accessed easily via desktop or mobile. Participation represents an opportunity for academic and research partners to ensure that their perspectives are reflected in an annual analysis of global cybersecurity that allows business leaders, academics, public sector officials, and civil society leaders to anticipate the key trends for the year ahead. By contributing, you will help enrich the GCO’s evidence base with the academic and policy research community’s critical insights on governance, resilience, emerging technology, and global security. Your input will help ensure that the report reflects a comprehensive and diverse range of expertise, bridging research, industry, and policy dialogue.

Value Proposition

Participation in the Global Cybersecurity Outlook offers universities, research institutions, and think tanks both visibility and influence in a widely recognized annual analysis of global cybersecurity. All respondents will receive personalized results immediately upon survey completion, offering benchmarking opportunities against peers and global trends. In addition, participants will be invited to an exclusive webinar at the time of the report launch, where early insights into key findings will be shared and discussed. Beyond these direct benefits, your institution’s contribution will help ensure that the research community’s voice informs international policy and industry action on cybersecurity. By shaping the GCO, your insights will influence how governments, businesses, and global organizations approach pressing cyber challenges—helping align academic expertise with practical, real-world impact.

Opportunity

We are seeking input from academics and researchers to help shape the Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026. Specifically, we are asking representatives to complete a short 10-minute survey that captures perspectives on the current and future state of cybersecurity. Responses will remain anonymous and will directly inform the evidence base of the report. In addition, if there are suitable experts within your institution with deep knowledge of cybersecurity, we would welcome their more active engagement in contributing to the report’s development for example through participation in a focus group.

Time Commitment

10-15 minutes to complete the survey and 10-15 minutes to share the survey link and relevant rationale with relevant experts from your network. Optional in addition 30-45 minutes for a focus group discussion.

Next Steps

We kindly ask you to identify and forward this opportunity to cyber security teams, researchers, and innovation units within and outside your institution who are actively studying emerging technology, AI and cybersecurity. We are asking for contributions from academics and researchers to the Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026 report via the GCO survey. The survey will remain open until September 30th 2025. In addition to completing the survey, if you are interested in getting more involved in the Global Cybersecurity Outlook through participating in a 30-45min expert focus group, please contact Giulia Moschetta at giulia.moschetta@weforum.org and Ellie Winslow at ellie.winslow@weforum.org. These small expert focus groups will take place between 1 September and 10 October 2025. Conversations will center on topics such as emerging technologies, cybercrime, resilience, regulations, and the cyber skills gap.
