Join the First Movers Coalition

Description

Become a “First Mover” and support efforts to accelerate the adoption of innovative near-zero emissions technologies in hard-to-abate sectors by 2030.50% of the reductions needed to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and keep the planet on a 1.5°C pathway must come from technologies not yet commercialized. Launched at COP26 in 2021 in partnership with the US Government, the First Movers Coalition (FMC) aims to build early demand for innovative clean technologies and energy sources across six hard-to-abate sectors that account for 30% of global carbon emissions (aluminum, aviation, cement and concrete, shipping, steel and trucking), and carbon dioxide removal technologies.

FMC leverages the purchasing power of organizations that can make a purchase commitment in one or more of these sectors, becoming a “first mover” to create a demand signal and accelerate the adoption of breakthrough clean solutions to reach commercial scale by 2030. As buyer of materials and mobility services, the higher education sector could also make a critical contribution to the mission of the First Movers Coalition. Joining the coalition would allow a university to advance its sustainability and decarbonization efforts and become part of a global community of leading businesses and organizations committed to accelerating the commercialization of innovative clean solutions.
