# EgyptAlumni Gender Accelerator

Egypt currently ranks 129th out of 146 countries on the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index and seventh within the Middle East and North Africa region. Its most significant gender gaps exist around women’s political and economic participation and empowerment. Closing workforce gender gaps will be essential to Egypt’s continued inclusive economic growth and could help the country to grow its GDP by as much as 34%.

## Activities and deliverables

Launched in 2020, Egypt’s Gender Parity Accelerator was the first of its kind in MENA. Seeking to close gender gaps in workforce participation, remuneration, leadership and the future of work, it is led by the Ministry of International Cooperation and the National Council for Women. The accelerator has finalized and officially launched its action plan and is in the process of recruiting companies to join and commit to action on workforce gender gaps.
