Skills AcceleratorAs India navigates rapid technological and economic change, skill gaps threaten to slow progress. Despite having a large and youthful workforce, there remains a significant mismatch between the skills employers need and those job seekers possess—particularly in high-growth sectors such as AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, and green technologies. To close this gap and strengthen its position as a global hub for digital talent, India must tackle the dual challenge of upskilling its current workforce and preparing new entrants with future-ready, industry-aligned skills.

## Activities and deliverables

The creation of the India Skills Accelerator was announced in New Delhi in April 2025 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum. The India Skills Accelerator will function as a national public-private collaboration platform designed to close critical skills gaps through inclusive upskilling and reskilling, mobilizing investment in lifelong learning, and strengthening collaboration between government and industry.By enabling agile career transitions, promoting scalable training models, and aligning education with evolving industry needs—particularly in high-growth sectors such as AI, robotics, and energy—the initiative seeks to empower India’s large youth demographic and build a future-ready workforce. The initiative’s governance structure brings together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors and is led and co-chaired by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, and Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Development of the North-Eastern Region.
