# KazakhstanGender Parity Accelerator

Kazakhstan currently ranks 65th out of 146 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index and 4th within Central Asia. Its most significant gender gaps exist around women’s political and economic participation and empowerment. Despite higher enrolment in tertiary education, women participate in the workforce at lower rates than men, experience a 22% wage gap and are less likely to reach leadership roles.

## Activities and deliverables

Launched in 2021 as the first such initiative of its kind in Central Asia, Kazakhstan’s Gender Parity Accelerator seeks to close gender gaps in workforce participation, remuneration and leadership — particularly in the financial services and energy and mining sectors. It is led by the Astana International Financial Centre, Commission on Women's Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Economy.
