The Canopy Catalyst Funds is a unique partnership between Aether Capital Partners and Canopy Planet Solutions, focused on decarbonising industrial supply chains together. We provide scale-up capital and growth funding to businesses focused on commercialising circular manufacturing practices and establishing sustainable low-carbon supply chains in the paper packaging, textile and fashion industries.

Why:

- 25% of pulp used for packaging and textiles comes from Ancient and Endangered Forests.

- 87% of the materials and fibres used to make clothing will end up in either incinerators or landfills.

- Intact natural forests are estimated to have 40x higher CO2 storage potential than plantation forests.

Key features of this unique partnership:

- Impact investment expertise combined with solutions-driven environmental advocacy.

- Deep knowledge of innovative Next Gen technologies and industrial processes.

- Expertise across forest products and consumer goods supply chains.

Our focus:

- Regenerative Materials: agrifibre pulping technologies, pulp mill & biorefinery development, and sustainable material producers.

- Textile Recycling: tech innovators and Next Gen textiles.

- Enabling Technology: Feedstock aggregation, sorting & pre-processing, and supply chain tracking & verification.

Impact objectives:

- Support protection, restoration, and sustainable use of forest ecosystems.

- Halt biodiversity loss and recuperate biological richness.

- Mitigation of CO2 emissions caused by conventional manufacturing practices, deforestation, and degradation.

- Enable scaling of Next Gen pulp and fibre production with low-carbon manufacturing powered by renewable energy.

- Encourage production of biodegradable and/or recyclable materials.

- Sustainable management and use of natural resources.

Other lead organisations:

The Canopy Catalyst Fund (CCF or Fund) is a growth equity impact fund focused on sustainable materials. The Fund invests in businesses poised for substantial growth based on their ability to meet the rising demand for sustainable, low-carbon, deforestation-free materials as an alternative to wood-based inputs for a wide range of markets and applications. Examples include sustainable textiles, packaging, moulded fibres (protective and food service packaging, cushioning for industrial packaging, drink carriers, egg cartons, etc.), building materials, green energy enabling materials and natural clean label ingredients. By providing solutions that reduce supply chain risks, stabilise input costs, and support compliance with increasingly rigorous sourcing and environmental regulations, these companies are well positioned to capitalise on evolving brand and consumer preferences.

The Fund will report under Article 9 of the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and will only invest in businesses that can materially contribute to the Fund’s impact KPIs while delivering competitive market returns.

CCF will target equity investments in fast-growing businesses focussed on scaling the production of next-generation pulp and fibre across three verticals:

Regenerative Materials

Developers and operators of pulp mills and biorefineries converting regenerative, non-wood biomass into sustainable pulp, fibre, and other bio-based materials for use across a range of applications.

Companies scaling proprietary tech for converting AgriFibres into pulp, fibre, and other biomaterials. Typically, these businesses plan to build and operate 1-2 facilities before switching to a capital-light licensing model.

Producers operating integrated facilities that process biomass into pulp, which they convert into finished products, including packaging and fibre board.

Sustainable Textiles

Textile recycling technology companies focused on converting textile waste into man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF) such as viscose/lyocell and/or recycled polyester(rPET). They typically plan to build the first few facilities themselves before switching to a licensing model.

Sustainable pulp and fibre producers scaling proprietary IP to produce sustainable alternative textiles.

Ecosystem Enablers

Enabling technology, logistics and infrastructure businesses providing solutions that support and enhance the production and performance of sustainable cellulosic materials, ensuring they can be deployed efficiently at scale.

Aether Capital Partners (“Aether”) is a private equity fund manager focused on impact-driven strategies dedicated to addressing major climate and environmental challenges while generating competitive financial returns. The firm provides growth capital to scale innovative businesses that enable circular, low-carbon manufacturing practices and sustainable sourcing.

Aether’s approach to impact investing is differentiated by its partnership model - collaborating closely with leading environmental NGOs and industrial groups. This framework provides deep sectoral insight, stakeholder alignment, and co-investment potential.

Aether’s ambition is to become the go-to platform for performance-driven investments that deliver measurable environmental impact while enhancing the resilience and sustainability of industrial supply chains. This approach is exemplified in Aether’s first fund, CCF, and will be extended through further strategies under development, targeting sectors including agriculture, water, and natural capital.
