IDBI, established in 1964, is the largest development bank for industry in India. It provides assistance to industrial concerns by way of term loans, underwriting of public issues, leasing, venture capital and merchant banking. In India far reaching structural changes are affecting the financial sector, allowing greater play to market forces in this field. This is expected to increase competition and productivity. IDBI expects to actively participate in this process by diversifying its activities and improving efficiency.
