Core areas of commitment:
The Medicaid Cancer Foundation’s commitment, titled Patience Access to Cancer Care (PACE) aims to address challenges related to the availability, accessibility, and affordability of cancer care by providing subsidized access to comprehensive services, including medical and psychosocial support. The program’s success is largely attributed to strategic partnerships at both national and international levels. Since it began in 2019, PACE has used a cost-subsidization approach, providing over $43,000 in subsidies. This support has allowed more than 150 patients to access over 600 chemotherapy medications, significantly reducing the financial burden of cancer treatment.
Key to the program's success are its strategic partnerships with national and international pharmaceutical companies, including Roche, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson. These collaborations enable the foundation to secure chemotherapy medications at a reduced cost, which is passed on to patients.
Key Impact Areas and Monitoring
The program’s progress is continually monitored through an internal monitoring and evaluation framework. Patient outcomes are tracked regularly, with key performance indicators (KPIs) focusing on the annual number of women who access cancer care through the initiative. Medicaid Cancer Foundation is also actively seeking new partnerships to further reduce costs , with a focus on continuing to alleviate the financial challenges associated with cancer treatment in low- and middle-income countries.
