Expected impact:

• 86,500 people access safe water products and services; 

• $2.6 million in capital mobilized;

• 17,300 loans disbursed;

• 865 micro, small, and medium enterprises supported; and

• 2,595 new jobs created.

Commitment:

Provide technical assistance to microfinance institutions for safe water lending:

• Develop procedures for safe water loans
• Train staff on procedures and products
• Establish a safe water monitoring and data management unit
• Develop marketing business plans.

Fund risk capital:

• Provide risk capital to banks through matching contributions
• Solicit expressions of interest from banks.

Design support grants:

• Provide initial liquidity to accelerate growth of safe water loan portfolios
• Support learning documentation and dissemination and monitor impact.
