### Action Plan and Target Setting

Novonesis have fully integrated sustainability into their core business model and strategic vision, and the organization has pledged to reach net-zero by 2050, aligned with SBTi. Novonesis deploys near-term interim targets to ensure progress towards their long-term net-zero commitment. By 2025, Novonesis aim to reduce absolute CO2e emissions from operations by 65% (from a 2018 baseline), while striving to achieve a 100% renewable energy supply. In addition, Novonesis have set an ambitious target of reducing Scope 3 emissions 35% by 2030 (compared to a 2018 baseline).

### Supplier Assessment

To achieve their Scope 3 ambitions of a 35% reduction by 2030, Novonesis conducts comprehensive assessments of their supplier base to identify the primary contributors to their supply chain emissions. Subsequently, Novonesis engage in collaborative dialogues with identified suppliers to discuss acceleration of their decarbonization journeys. The supplier assessment encompass all suppliers, also beyond tier 1. Novonesis have extended their Scope of supplier engagement beyond tier 1 suppliers, as emission hotspots often occur further down in their supply chain e.g., at farm site. While this process has revealed a difference in suppliers’ sustainability maturity, it has also disclosed that a majority of suppliers are very open to engage, but often lack the necessary ecosystem – hence emphasizing the demand for a joint collaboration.

### Supplier Engagement

Novonesis is taking a collaborative approach to supplier engagement. Currently, they are engaging with 60% of their Scope 3 emissions to gain a better understanding of their supply chain emissions and their suppliers climate maturity. Going forward, Novonesis has a clear commitment to engage with suppliers that have a significant impact on Scope 3 emissions with the aim of improving their transparency and exploring joint decarbonization. To ensure alignment, this engagement has primarily been through 1:1 dialogue and meetings, encouraging knowledge sharing and presenting Novonesis strategy, plans and targets. In 2022, Novonesis e.g., engaged with suppliers on climate and sustainability during regular meetings and check-ins. Based on this, Novonesis developed a supplier segmentation model that will inform their supplier segmentation strategy going forward. Suppliers have, moreover, been requested to provide carbon footprints and their best available data for products they are delivering to the company.Ensuring alignment across all levels (including executive levels) has – and continue to be - an essential part of this process and is perceived as necessary to provide confidence to the suppliers’ CEO and leadership. This is reassured by having suppliers speaking directly with the head of R&D at Novonesis. For more information, please reference here.
