# About the Future of Global Fintech initiative

## Fintechs hold an essential role within the financial system

By leveraging technology, fintechs can improve accessibility to financial services and efficiency within the financial system. Firms may operate independently, offering innovative solutions directly to consumers, or collaborate with traditional financial institutions to enhance existing services and streamline operations. As the global fintech industry continues to grow and scale, the financial services ecosystem is presented with new opportunities and challenges. It is critical for key stakeholders to stay informed of these shifts, enabling them to respond effectively and maintain a financial system that is efficient, adaptable and stable.

## More about our initiative

## Tracking the evolving fintech landscape

The Future of Global Fintech initiative, co-led with the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF), builds off of a research effort launched during the Covid-19 pandemic to assess fintechs’ performance in a dramatically changing environment. Given the reception of findings from the initial research, and the growing importance of fintech in the financial system, we are committed to continuing this work. All iterations of this initiative use a comprehensive survey of fintech companies worldwide as the foundation for insights. Through these surveys and a series of roundtables, we gather empirical evidence to inform market development and evidence-based regulation.

Our research reveals global market trends, regional insights, and fintech's impact on consumers, SMEs, and financial inclusion. We facilitate knowledge exchange through meetings and workshops, bringing together innovators, incumbent institutions, regulators, and development organizations to create meaningful public-private partnerships and act on research findings. The most recent publication with new data was launched in June 2025. A series of meetings to share key findings at both the global and regional levels will take place over 2025-2026.
