Jordan faced a significant gender participation gap, ranking 122nd out of 146 countries on the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index (2021) and fifth in the Middle East and North Africa.  Although women account for 56% of university graduates, only 14% participate in the workforce. Increasing female workforce participation by 25% could raise Jordan’s GDP by as much as 10%.

To address the transition from education to employment, the Jordan Gender Parity Accelerator was launched in 2021 through a collaboration between the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Bank al Etihad, Oasis 500, Hikma Pharmaceuticals LLC, the Crown Prince Foundation, and Business and Professional Women Amman, which led the initiative. The accelerator focused on closing gender gaps in workforce participation, remuneration, leadership, and the future of work.
