## The Problem

Approximately 759 million people worldwide lack access to electricity, predominantly in emerging markets. This energy deficit hampers economic development, limits educational opportunities, and exacerbates health challenges. Compounding this issue, many regions still rely on fossil fuels, contributing to environmental degradation and climate change. The dual challenge is to expand energy access while reducing carbon emissions—a complex task requiring substantial investment, innovation, and coordinated action.

## The Solution

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is a collaborative initiative dedicated to accelerating the transition to clean, renewable energy in emerging economies. Launched at COP26 in 2021, GEAPP brings together a diverse coalition of partners, including governments, philanthropies, multilateral institutions, and the private sector, all committed to addressing energy poverty and climate change simultaneously. Together, the partners design and implement renewable energy projects that reduce emissions, improve access to electricity, and support economic development.Since its launch, GEAPP has united over 50 partners, mobilized $1.07 billion, and supported 130 projects across 40 countries. These efforts have averted 147,000 tons of carbon emissions and supported the livelihoods of more than 600,000 people.

## How is it Game Changing?

GEAPP stands out for its holistic approach to expanding clean energy access, combining robust data-driven strategies with a collaborative “Alliancing” model. By tackling decarbonization and sustainable development together, GEAPP is delivering long-term, systemic impact in emerging markets around the world, and its partnership approach ensures that projects are aligned with local development goals.
