# Inside the Strategic Intelligence Academy

Learn how our hub supports educators and learners, what systems literacy means, why improving thinking models matters, and who is involved.

## Goals

This initiative addresses learning and skilling challenges in the global education sector by providing resources and support on systems thinking and other innovative methodologies . The hub aims to:

### Establish Research-Based Practices for Systems Education

Develop best practices for learning by combining systems thinking research, educational theory, and strategic intelligence tools to assist learners and educators in exploring complex systems effectively

## What is systems thinking?

Systems thinking is a holistic approach to understanding complex issues. It encourages a zoomed-out perspective that examines relationships, interactions, and patterns within a system, focusing on the big picture and interdependencies rather than isolated parts. In an increasingly complex world, we need a dynamic mindset that recognizes how each component influences others within a larger context.

## Barriers to understanding complex systems

The current landscape and why systems literacy matters

### Polarizing media

Societal polarization is on the rise, driven by misinformation and disinformation; our limited capacity to understand complex systems, combined with media-driven filter bubbles, reinforces biases and creates alternate perceptions of reality.

### Educational shortcomings

To develop essential thinking skills, systems must address outdated curricula and the lack of media literacy training for teachers and students. Instead, standardized testing and rote memorization continue to drive curricula, stifling curiosity and creativity in the classroom.

### Increased global complexity

Research indicates that the rise of information and communication technologies has introduced increasing complexity, a defining feature of the the 21st century.

## Answering a need

Evolving from the World Economic Forum's white paper Innovative Learning Solutions to Navigate Complexity: Adapting Systems Thinking to Future Classrooms, the Strategic Intelligence (SI) Academy aims to address the above-mentioned societal challenges. By integrating research from industry and academia, it offers educators a transdisciplinary one-stop shop for instructional support that promotes systems thinking and future-ready skills.
