## Foresight: Signals and Trends

In late 2025, the World Economic Forum surveyed members of its Global Foresight Network, seeking to understand weak signals and emerging trends for future. While the network members all presented their unique perspectives, they frequently returned to a central theme: Accelerating global uncertainty. Artificial Intelligence was mentioned by many respondents, relating to its diffusion, backlash against it, rising misinformation and the chances of an investment bubble. Concerns about social cohesion were also widespread, from loneliness and identity-seeking to shifts in values. Climate and nature risks remain central, alongside uneven transitions in mobility, energy and regulation. In the field of foresight, a "weak signal" is an early, ambiguous and low-visibility indication of a potentially significant future change that challenges dominant assumptions, but which lacks sufficient evidence or scale to be recognized as an established trend. "Trends", on the other hand, are defined as observable, sustained patterns of change with sufficient momentum and evidence to indicate a directional shift likely to influence future of systems or behaviours.

In a rapidly changing world, the ability to anticipate, navigate and shape the future is becoming an essential leadership skill. This eight-episode masterclass series introduces participants to the foundations advanced practices of strategic foresight.
