Summary

The Green Hydrogen Andalusia Valley is a renewable hydrogen initiative, which involves building two new hydrogen production facilities with a 2 GW capacity.

Industrial Ecosystem

Description

San Roque - Los Barrios and La Rabida - Huelva represent 2 of the largest industrial areas in Andalusia. Key industries on site include oil & gas, steel and other metals, copper, fertilizers, biofuels, chemicals, etc. While neither of the 2 industrial areas have a unified governance structure, an association of 21 companies and 23 production plants set up a partnership for the industrial zone in Huelva - AIQBE (Asociación de Industrias Químicas, Básicas Energéticas)

Project Activities and Assets

Description

The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley initiative aims at building two green hydrogen production facilities at the Energy Parks in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) and San Roque (Campo de Gibraltar, Cadiz) in Spain. The facilities will have combined electrolysis capacity of 2 GW and produce up to 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year:

• 1 GW at Cádiz, San Roque Energy Park - currently an oil refinery, with a crude oil daily processing capacity of 240,000 barrels per day

• 1 GW at Huelva, La Rabida Energy Park - currently a petrochemical facility and import-export hub via the Port of Huelva

Project impact

• Emissions: 6 Mt CO2e GHG prevented annually by the project at completion (55% targeted annual emissions reduction by 2030)

• GDP contribution: no data

• Jobs: 10,000 jobs added by the project
